Austin Arrington

American History and World History

Austin.Arrington@cravenk12.org

Austin Arrington is one of our awesome history teachers.  A native of Craven County, he attended ECU and is now in his 10th year at West Craven.  He loves that there's always something more to learn about history and how one fact can totally change your perspective on something.  His hobbies outside of the classroom include hosting a weekly trivia game and performing onstage at the local theatres.

Big News!

West Craven High School is proud to announce that Austin Arrington has been selected to attend the 2026 Teachers’ Trip to Poland. This program brings North Carolina educators who teach about the Holocaust to an intensive eight-day educational seminar in Poland.

This year, more than 360 teachers applied for just 40 available spots.  More than 100 teachers from across North Carolina have participated in the program, representing more than 70 of the state’s 100 counties. The program is also supported by the North Carolina Center for the Advancement of Teaching (NCCAT), which annually funds five teachers to participate in the trip. Congratulations to Mr. Arrington on this outstanding achievement, and we look forward to hearing about the experience, as well as seeing how the knowledge and insights gained will be integrated into the school’s curriculum.

Dr. Syuen Walker

World History and World History Honors

Syuen.Walker@cravenk12.org

Hello, my name is Dr. Syuen Walker, and I am excited to be your teacher! I am originally from Kingston, Jamaica, and I have a deep love for learning and sharing knowledge with others. After high school, I studied at The Mico Teacher’s College, one of the oldest institutions in the Caribbean. I later pursued higher education in the United States, earning degrees in Psychology, Education, and, most recently, a Ph.D. in Education. I enjoy taking on new challenges and believe learning should always be an adventure. Outside of teaching, I love traveling, exploring new cultures, reading, and spending quality time with my family. As your teacher, I aim to create a positive, engaging, and supportive classroom where everyone feels encouraged to grow, take risks, and reach their highest potential.
