Welcome to Eagle country! This is my 29th year of teaching high school English, and I love every day of it! I am a ‘92 graduate of WCHS, then I went to ECU for my BS in English education and my MAEd in English education, concentrating on African, African American, and Women’s studies. I love spending time with my husband Bud, my son Jack, and our fur babies Charlie Bear, Dallas Gray, and Sadie Mae.

Hi Eagle Nation! My name is Aeryalle Coward, and I am so excited to be joining the English department this year! I originally graduated from ECU in 2018 with a BA in English, and I recently graduated from ECU again with an MA in English with a focus in folklore. This upcoming school year will be my seventh year teaching in ENC. Reading and writing makes my heart sing, and I love having the opportunity to share that with others! Being a part of the community is truly what I love most about being a teacher, and I love showing up for my students outside of the classroom. Tell me all about those sporting and performing arts events! I can’t wait for the best school year yet!
Maureen Lagasse
English 1, English 1 Honors and English 3 Honors
Maureen Lagasse teaches English III and English I, both regular and honors level, as well as AP Language classes. Ms. Lagasse is an eight-year Army veteran who earned her bachelor’s degree in English from Bridgewater State University in Massachusetts. She then received her master’s degree in English from the University of Virginia. Ms. Lagasse taught community college in Virginia for ten years before becoming a Court-Appointed Special Advocate for abused children and a legal writer. She served in those roles for a total of seven years. She has been teaching at West Craven High School for 4 years and is currently the chair of the English department.

I graduated in 2017 with a Bachelor of Arts in English Literature and American History. I began my career in Secondary Education, but after that, I took on various roles, including plumber, baker, and tutor. Eventually, I returned to school to earn my Master's degree. Now, I am excited to come back to my first love: teaching.
