What is AVID?
AVID stands for Advancement Via Individual Determination and its mission is to close the opportunity gap by preparing all students for college and career readiness and success in a global society. The West Craven High School AVID program prides itself on providing our students with opportunities to help prepare them for life after graduation and teach them transferable skills by utilizing the WICOR Framework of Writing, Inquiry, Collaboration, Organization and Reading in every classroom on campus. Our AVID scholars are also leaders within our building and community each and every day.

My name is Dr. Syuen Walker; I am from Kingston, Jamaica. After high school, 1 attended one of the oldest institutions in the Caribbean, The Mico Teacher's College in Kingston, Jamaica. I later attended Grand Canyon University, where I studied Psychology; Walden University, where I completed a master's in education; and North Central University, where I recently completed my Ph.D. in Education.

My name is Craig Fitch and I am a graduate of Slippery Rock University of Pennsylvania, where I earned my B.A. in Social Studies Education (6-12). I have taught social studies at West Craven since I moved here from Sheffield, PA in 2014. I am also an assistant coach for the football team and the head men's golf coach. My amazing wife Brooke Fitch is a kindergarten teacher at Bridgeton Elementary, and we have a 3 year old son together. We are proud to be a part of Eagle Nation!

Jillian Traynor

Jillian Traynor has been part of Eagle Nation since 2023. She got her Masters in Secondary Education form Point Park University and is excited to share her knowledge with her students. As part of the Social Studies department she teaches Civics and Government, Economics and Personal Finance, AP United States History, and AVID 4.
